In the housing business, there are many trends – so many in fact that it can be dizzying at times. Painting is no different. The way your house looks changes with the seasons and if you want to be up to date with the latest crazes, you have to do your homework. Thankfully you have us at Richard Stewart Painting to take care of that for you. One of the biggest trends going on this summer is wallpaper. Yes, wallpaper – it is making a comeback. A fierce comeback.
It seems like it’s been forever since wallpaper was popular or the go-to way to freshen your walls or ceilings. Like we’re talking 60s and 70s. The usefulness of wallpaper was replaced by the complex simplicity of paint. But more than that, wallpaper developed a reputation for being more pricey than it’s actually worth, especially considering the damage many perceive it does to walls, like with adhesives and the difficulty it sometimes takes to put up. There’s also the problem of wallpaper being tacky, especially aged wallpaper that looks like some dying animal. So, there’s that. Wallpaper, however, is making a comeback that has many homeowners in a tizzy.
In this article, Charlotte Cosby, creative head of London-based Farrow & Ball, says, “The re-emergence of wallpaper is very much part of the trend of allowing people to tell their story through color and paint.”
Once regarded as tacky, gaudy even, many homeowners now see wallpaper as a creative way to tell their story – something to be paired off with paint to create something truly special. At Richard Stewart Painting, we encourage people using their house and colors to tell their story, but will this wallpaper craze truly last? What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
