If you’re planning to paint the outside of your home this spring or summer season, listen up!
We have compiled a list of small tips that will come in useful for big paint jobs.
Check the Weather Forecast
In California, it’s typically warm enough to paint so you rarely will run into temperature issues. However, California does experience occasional rain and wind. It is vital that you choose the right time to paint. Pay attention to the forecast and make sure you paint in ideal conditions for ideal results.
Prepare Before You Paint
You might want to roll up your sleeves and start slapping paint onto the house, but if you don’t make sure to prep the surface first, the paint won’t stick. You should clean the siding and trim of your home thoroughly and buff away peeling paint to create a level surface. Cover outdoor furniture, vehicles, plants, or otherwise that might be in the “splash zone.”
Commit to Caulking
It can be a bit of a burden, but you should take this opportunity to caulk any visible holes or cracks. Often times, these can be found around the windows, foundations, or door jambs. Filling these holes will help paint go on smoothly and can also prevent pests from getting in. If you wait to caulk after you’ve painted, the caulk might be visible.
Carefully Consider Color
You should carefully consider the color you’re committing to. We highly suggest sampling colors and painting portions of the wall before you start the “official painting.” Make sure to view the colors in the daylight and evening because they often change under different lights.
