If you are thinking about selling your home, you are probably also wondering how you might be able to boost the overall value of it. A 2017 study, conducted by Zillow, looked at over 32,000 photos of sold homes and discovered that paint color plays a role in overall home value.
If you are choosing the right paint colors, you might be able to increase the overall value of your home if you are choosing the right ones.
Blue and Gray
The most popular color choices turned out to be different shades of blue and gray. In a bathroom or a kitchen, a shade similar to powder blue could earn you between $1,800 and $5,440 when selling your home. Bedrooms in brighter, shades, such as cerulean shades of blue, might earn you around $1,856 more. Shades of navy blue or slate gray in a dining room can possibly get you $2,000 more for your home.
Neutral Tones
Simple, plain white walls might actually lose you money when selling your home. You might see it as a blank canvas but potential buyers see it as a project. However, studies have showed that homes with white bathrooms typically sell for around $4,000 less when compared to similar homes. However, other neutral colors might work in your favor. A living room painted in a more natural shade, such as light beige or oatmeal, might earn you an extra $1,800 when selling your home. A gray or beige tone on the exterior of our home typically sees an average sale of $1526 more.
Pinks, Reds, and Yellows
While Zillow found that some shades brought a higher sale price others resulted in a lower sale price overall. Many different shades of yellows in the kitchen resulted in lower sales of up to $820 less. Rose colored shades in the bedroom reduced the sale price up to $208. In the dining room, brick red tones often correlated with a $2,031 drop in price.
Overall, the paint trends of 2017 revel that cool, neutral colors are trending and potential buyers seem to be looking for them when shopping around. If you are planning to paint some of the rooms in your home before selling, contact Richard Stewart Painting.
